The Fictionados meet every other week at their secret hideout (usually any place in Los Angeles that has cheap coffee, but we’ll soon settle into our Super Secret Hideout in North Hollywood). The main part of the meeting is duscussing current stories submitted by members. We follow a Clarion style approach, with each critique taking no more than three minutes. There is also discussion of news, rejections, acceptances, general announcements, marekets, etc. Members are allowed six month sabbaticals and can come back at any time during those six months.
Now, please keep in mind that we’re a genre writing group in Southern California. Not that we have anything against literary fiction, or movie scripts, or any place that isn’t Southern California. It’s just that there are plenty of writers’ groups that cater to literary fiction, or screenwriting, or occur online. Since we’re focused ONLY on helping genre writers improve their skills and get published, and we meet in person, we’re not going to be much use to you if you are literary, a screenwriter, or living in Kansas.
Genre fiction includes (but is not limited to):
* Science Fiction
* Fantasy
* Romance
* Mystery
* Horror
Our members have varying levels of experience, from professional to neo-pro to hopeful, dedicated amateur. Again, note the keywords: “hopeful”, and “dedicated”. Our purpose isn’t to drown each other’s sorrows about the latest rejection, go to fancy restaurants and share gossip, or just talk endlessly about writing (without actually doing any writing). Every member in the Fictionados is serious about his or her craft and serious about getting published.
